The City of St. Louis has a limited budget and 108 other parks to manage, so the Lafayette Park Conservancy takes an active partnership role in the care of our historic neighborhood oasis. We’re fortunate to have folks from Davey Resource Group, Hansen Tree Services, and Forest ReLeaf working with us. They provide a professional overlay to our year-round volunteer work in planting, mulching, and watering the Lafayette Park trees.
You enjoy the shade from a giant oak because someone years ago selflessly thought of your comfort. Paying that generosity forward is the spirit driving both professional and volunteer efforts to maintain and increase our resident forest.
Here are some of the 2021 statistics for our 30 acre park, courtesy of Davey Tree Resource:
- 837 trees (Nine are dead and targeted for removal)
- 93 species – great diversity within a strong population
- 22% of trees are 2″ or less in diameter – demonstrating a range of ages, with more planted yearly
- 13 ash trees currently treated to counter the Emerald Ash Borer
The process of losing trees to disease and age is a constant, as is the process of planting new ones.
Your $150 donation can provide a tree that will serve as a living memorial. A gift of any amount to the Lafayette Park Tree Fund will help our ongoing reforestation projects.
This concession to the future will be much appreciated by all who love the shady spaces of Lafayette Park. Click the ‘Donate’ button below and indicate ‘Tree Fund.’ Thanks!
If you prefer, please consider joining our team of volunteers. You can help us to provide and protect a first class canopy with ornamental diversity and a sustainable future.
